Privacy Policy
Nova Numbers is used by children, so the safest thing it can do with personal information is not collect any. It has no account, no ads and no server. This page is written for the grown-up who is deciding whether to install it.
1. Who we are
Nova Numbers is made by Jaber El Ferkh, the “we” and “us” in this policy. For anything on this page, write to hello.elhaidi@gmail.com.
2. What we never ask for or collect
This list is the important one, so it comes first. Nova Numbers does not collect, and has no way to receive:
- a child’s name, nickname, birthday, email address, phone number or postal address;
- photos, video, microphone audio, contacts or location;
- an advertising identifier, or any identifier that could follow a child between apps or sites;
- persistent identifiers of any kind — there is no user account and no device ID sent anywhere;
- anything a child draws, writes or types as an answer.
There are no ads in Nova Numbers — no banners, no interstitials, no rewarded video, and no third-party advertising SDK in the app. Nothing about a child is used for advertising, profiling, or building an audience, and nothing is ever sold or shared with a data broker.
3. Handwriting
When a child writes an answer with a finger or an Apple Pencil, the strokes are turned into an image and read entirely on the device, using Apple’s on-device text recognition. No part of it is uploaded.
The drawing is discarded as soon as the question moves on. It is never saved to a file, never included in an analytics event, never attached to a support message, and never used to train anything. Clearing the canvas removes it immediately.
Handwriting reading is experimental and it does misread things. When it does, the app says what it read and offers a typed answer instead, so a child is never stuck or penalised.
4. What the app stores on the iPhone
All of this is written to the app’s own storage on the device. There is no account and no server for it to be uploaded to.
| What | Why it exists |
|---|---|
| Age range | A broad band a grown-up picks, so question sizes and the starting world fit the child. |
| Skills Check result | Which world the child was placed on, so practice starts in the right place. |
| Lesson progress and stars | Which lessons are done and how many stars each earned. |
| Streak and daily goal | So the app can show a streak and celebrate a completed day. |
| Sound, haptics and reminder settings | The preferences chosen in the Grown-ups area. |
| Subscription status | Whether Nova Premium is active, so the right content is unlocked. Checked with Apple. |
The age range is a broad band chosen by a grown-up — not a date of birth. It exists so the questions are the right size, and it is the only thing about the child the app holds at all.
5. Analytics
Release builds send no analytics. The app has an internal event system used during development, and the builds shipped to the App Store replace it with a tracker that does nothing. There is no third-party analytics SDK, no session replay, no autocapture and no crash-reporting service in the app.
The events that exist carry only coarse, non-identifying values — an age band, a score bucket, a fixed label such as “lesson completed”. They never contain a child’s answers, drawings, exact age, or anything that could identify a person. If anonymous usage statistics are ever switched on, we will update this page before that ships, and those limits will still apply.
6. Parent gate and purchases
The Grown-ups area, the legal documents, and the subscription screen reached from the lesson map are protected by a parent gate: a challenge that asks for a number written out in words, which a young child is not expected to pass. It is a barrier to accidental taps, not a security control.
Nova Premium is an optional auto-renewing subscription sold through the App Store. Apple processes the payment. We never see card details, a billing address, or an Apple Account. The app asks Apple whether a valid subscription exists; the copy kept on the device is for display only, and an automated test proves it cannot unlock content by itself.
7. Reminders
An optional daily practice reminder can be switched on in the Grown-ups area. It is scheduled locally by iOS on the device, at a time a grown-up picks, and can be turned off at any time. Nothing about it is sent anywhere.
8. Children’s privacy
Nova Numbers is an educational practice app intended to be set up and supervised by a parent, guardian or teacher. Because the app collects no personal information from anyone, there is no personal information about a child for us to hold, disclose, or be asked to delete.
That is a deliberate design choice rather than a policy promise: there is no account system, no network request that carries a child’s data, and no server on our side. If you would like to remove everything the app has stored, deleting the app from the iPhone removes all of it.
If you believe a child has sent us personal information another way — for example, by writing to our support address — tell us and we will delete it.
9. If you email us
Messages sent from the support page are delivered by FormSubmit, a form-forwarding service, to our support inbox, which is a Gmail account. Those providers process the message on our behalf in order to deliver it.
Please write to us as the grown-up, not as the child, and do not include a child’s name, school, or photo. We never need them to help with an app problem. We use what you send only to answer you.
10. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that affects what the app does with data, we will update the date at the top of this page and change the matching summary inside the app before the new behaviour ships.
11. Contact
